Restylane® dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid which occurs naturally in the skin. HA attracts and holds water to keep skin plump and hydrated. The Restylane® line of fillers is divided into different products that target specific treatment areas and may require a few days to take effect. Compared to other HA fillers Restylane® causes less swelling.
Fillers instantly help smooth lines and wrinkles, soften creases, enhance facial contours, and restore lost volume. Research also suggests that HA injections may stimulate your body’s collagen production, for increased skin firmness and elasticity.
Fillers aren’t effective for treating sagging skin, and they’re not a substitute for a surgical facelift. They work best for people who’ve lost some facial volume but still have good skin elasticity.
At the beginning of your appointment make sure to discuss your treatment goals with your injector who will evaluate your facial anatomy and determine the best type of filler to use. Your injector will also go over the potential risks. Be open to your provider’s suggestions about which changes will make the most impact even if you’re there to treat a specific concern. Your provider will apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area which will ease discomfort. When the area is numb, usually after 20 minutes or so, your skin will then be cleansed with alcohol and your provider will slowly inject the filler, massaging with their fingertips to help with distribution.
It is important to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise and too much sun or heat for a few days after treatment to minimize swelling and bruising. It is also helpful to take oral arnica three days before treatment and for three days after until bruising fades.
