SculpSure is a nonsurgical body-contouring treatment that uses diode-laser energy to permanently destroy stubborn fat cells, popular for reducing unwanted fat on the belly, flanks, back, thighs and under the chin. One session can destroy up to 24% of fat cells in the treated area and it is common to need two or more sessions spaced two months apart for optimal results.
The treatment works by cooling the surface of the skin while laser energy heats underlying fat cells until they are too damaged to survive. Then, over the next days and weeks the body flushes them out through the lymphatic system. The average patient will start to see results in six weeks, with full results visible in three months.
While the fat cells you lose don’t return, if you do gain weight the fat cells that remain can expand or new fat cells can form. The key to keeping your results is maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
SculpSure is recommended if you are looking for a non-invasive alternative to surgery with no downtime and minimal side effects. Because the treatment uses heat it has also been shown to tighten skin which CoolSculpting cannot. Results are permanent if you maintain a stable weight.
SculpSure is not recommended if you’re looking for a quick fix or to lose weight. Results are not as immediately apparent like with liposuction. This is not a weight loss procedure and the ideal candidate must be within 30 pounds of your ideal weight or have a body mass index of 30 or less. It’s also important to avoid sun exposure on the area being treated for a week before and a week after the procedure to avoid possible sunburn.
You’ll start with a consultation with your provider who will determine if you are a candidate for the procedure and develop a treatment plan that aligns with your goals, how your body is built and your body mass. During the actual procedure special frames are applied to the areas to be treated and wrapped around you like a belt, then four applicators are fitted to the frames. The treatment will take about 25 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area. You will feel a cooling and then a gradual warming of the treatment area for the first four minutes, then an interchange between heating and cooling for the remainder of the treatment time. The skin is heated to 107 degrees so depending on your pain tolerance everyone will feel some level of discomfort.
For the first few days after treatment there will be some redness, bruising and swelling in the treatment area; wear loose fitting garments and elastic waistbands to be more comfortable. Tenderness could last for up to two weeks following treatment. It is important to hydrate especially during those weeks to help flush out the destroyed fat cells. Massaging the treated area twice a day is recommended to avoid lumps of damaged fat cells.
